Christina Lords Promoted to Editor of Idaho Statesman

SACRAMENTO, Calif., February 26, 2019 -- McClatchy (NYSE American: MNI) today named Christina Lords editor of the Idaho Statesman. Lords has previously served as the Statesman’s watchdog, breaking and politics editor, and is in place to assume her new role effective immediately.

“Christina is an extremely talented journalist who's already made an impressive impact in her time at the Statesman -- leading IdahoStatesman.com to its place as the No. 1 news destination in Idaho,” said Rebecca Poynter, Idaho Statesman president and publisher. “Christina was born and raised in the Gem State and cares deeply about Idaho and its people. She's well-equipped to serve at the newsroom's helm and to help the Idaho Statesman thrive as the top source of news about the community, the state and beyond.”

Prior to joining the Idaho Statesman as breaking news editor in 2017, Lords served as assistant editor at the Idaho Press-Tribune. She was a government reporter for the Post Register in Idaho Falls. She also served as a reporter for The Issaquah Press/Newcastle News in Washington and the Moscow-Pullman Daily News in Moscow, Idaho.

"I am honored to now lead a newsroom of dedicated journalists that I’ve looked up to throughout my career,” Lords said. “As a fifth-generation Idahoan, the Gem State and its stories are dear to my heart. I'll never lose sight of the fact that I'm lucky to do this work in my home state. Day in and day out, we'll continue to work hard to bring our readers relevant, in-depth and unique stories they can't get anywhere else about issues that matter most."

Lords has received numerous honors for her work including from the Idaho Press Club, the Utah Idaho Spokane Associated Press Association (UISAPA) and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). She’s an alumna of the University of Idaho, where she led The Argonaut student newspaper as editor-in-chief.
